St. Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School team entered the semi-finals of the ongoing 3rd Kohima District Inter School Football tournament on Thursday. 

In a seven goal thriller, St Mary’s HSS snatched 4-3 victory over Mount Carmel Higher Secondary School here at IG Stadium, Kohima. 

Tepevil with his hat-trick became the highest goal scorer of the tournament with eight goals in his name. 

In the match, Tepevil opened the scoring for St. Mary’s HSS within the introduction of the match. 

However Tonwang conceded an own goal in the 19th minute to helped Mt. Carmel team get the equaliser and their striker Razuovituo gave the lead in the 28th minute.

In the second half, it was a different story as Tonwang rose up on the occasion to score for the team making up his mistake in the first half. And their striker Tepevil with his brilliant effort struck twice in 44th and 51st minute making it 4-2. 

Zunio did score in 61st minute to minimise the goal difference but St. Mary’s managed to hold on to the lead till the final whistle to win the match. 

They will now play their semifinal match against John Government Higher Secondary School, Viswema on July 13.

Meanwhile, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School rode on their luck as they overcame Minister’s Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School 2-1 to enter the semi-final.  

Minister’s Hill team hit the woodwork twice and quality goalkeeping from Don Bosco keeper did the magic for the team.

In the match, Don Bosco HSS opened the scoring through Khriesizo header in the 30th minute to take the deserving lead. Minister’s Hill team hit back but failed to breach the defensive team as Don Bosco hold on to the lead until a penalty was awarded to opponent team for a handball inside the danger area in the 68th minute. Toshiakum Ozukum coolly converted the penalty to make it 1-1 in the 68th minute.  However there was no much drama with Don Bosco sticking on the draw in the 80th minute match. 

In the extra time, Rüguozetuo struck the winning goal for Don Bosco HSS in the 80th minute. 

With the win, Don Bosco will play against first edition champions Rüzhükhrie Higher Secondary School on July 13. Rato Pusa, additional director, Youth Resources & Sports graced Thursday’s matches as the match patron.
