State coffee growers undertake exposure trip to RCRS Diphu

Department of Land Resources, Dimapur district organized an exposure trip for coffee growers to the Regional Coffee Research Station (RCRS), Diphu, Assam on February 10.

The tour was sponsored by Coffee Board of India with the objective of preparing the coffee growers to engage themselves in proper planning for harvesting the coffee as it helps in yielding the best quality and quantity harvest and also reap good economic returns. 

While at the same time it was vital to educate the farmers on harvesting the Coffee cherries without causing any damage to the tree.

The farmers from four villages- Ghotovi, Hozukhe, Toshezu and Kuhoxu were accompanied by Watershed Development Team members of LRD Dimapur, Lenin Girisa and Asungla Jamir. 

With major emphasis being laid on post management of coffee, the farmers were educated on topics which included- calendar operations for Coffee estate, importance of plant training and prunning in coffee and processing of coffee for better quality. 

Resource persons from Coffee Board of India included RCRS Diphu officer in-charge Bijaya Barman, coffee board, Diphu extension officer PT Jayan and RCRS, Diphu extension inspector Sandip Das

The department of land resources has been appointed as the nodal department for the promotion/plantation of coffee in the State since 2016-17.
