State govt sets up panel on customary practices, usages

State government has constituted a committee headed by the chief secretary for compilation of the personal customary practices and usages of all the tribes in the state.

According to an official notification, there was a need for compilation of the personal customary practices and usages of all the tribes in the state so as to have a better understanding of the same as well as for the purposes of record and reference. The four-member panel would be headed by chief secretary as chairman, home commissioner and secretary justice & law as members and commissioner & secretary, art & culture as member secretary.

The committee has been tasked to chalk out the modalities for carrying out its work in the manner it deems appropriate. The committee has been empowered to utilise the services of any government official or associate any person as it may deem fit for successful completion of the task assigned to it.  The committee has been asked to submit its report within two months from the date of its constitution. 

Meeting with tribal bodies on August 7: With the constitution of the committee for compilation of the customary practices and usage of all the tribes in Nagaland, state government has convened a meeting for discussion and deliberation with all the tribal bodies of the state on August 7, 2019 at 11am at the Secretariat Conference Hall, Kohima. 

The following tribal bodies have been requested to attend the meeting: president, Angami Public Organization, Kohima and two representatives; president, Ao Senden, Mokokchung and two representatives; president, Chakhesang Public Organisation, Phek and two representatives; president, Chang Khulei Setsang, Tuensang and two representatives; president, Garo Tribal Council, Dimapur and two representatives; president, Kachari Tribal Council Nagaland, Dimapur and two representatives; president, Karbi (Mikir) Union, Nagaland, Dimapur and two representatives; president, Khiamniungan Tribal Council, Noklak and two representatives; president, Konyak Union, Mon and two representatives; president, Kuki Inpi and two representatives; president, Lotha Hoho, Wokha and two representatives; president, Phom People Council, Longleng and two representatives; president, Pochury Hoho, Meluri and two representatives; president, Rengma Hoho, Tseminyu and two representatives; president, Sumi Hoho, Zunheboto and two representatives; president, United Sangtam Likhum Pumji, Kiphire and two representatives; president, Yimchunger Tribal Council, Shamator and two representatives and president, Zeliang Peoples Organisation, Peren and two representatives.
