State HG&CD observes ‘Raising Day’

Nagaland Home Guards and Civil Defence (HG&CD) personnel Friday were motivated to discharge exceptional service to the people of the state on the occasion of “Raising Day” cum culmination of professional and sports meet at Central Training Institute (CTI) Toluvi, Dimapur. 

On the occasion, messages from the Governor of Nagaland, R.N. Ravi, chief minister, Neiphiu Rio and advisor of HG&CD, Noke Wangnao were read out by district commandant Wokha, Vikiho K Sumi.

 In his message, the Governor said state HG&CD has been doing a commendable job in rendering yeomen service to the people. He acknowledged the service of the organisation in assisting the security personnel of the country and civil administration in dealing with incidents arising out of internal security, natural and manmade calamities and welfare activities.

Ravi called upon Nagaland HG&CD to keep the flag of its high standards flying and remain committed to the cause by giving their best to the people, state and the country.

The chief minister also acknowledged the services of Nagaland HG&CF saying that it has become an important and effective component of disaster response besides its role as reserve force.

Rio said 240 personnel from the organisation have been dedicated exclusively for the disaster management under the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to be the first line response for search and rescue operations.

The chief minister hoped that the officers and all ranks and file of the organisation would continue to render their selfless services to the people even in the face of extreme and challenging situations, whenever it may arise.

 Advisor Noke said Nagaland HG&CD being an auxiliary to the state police force has been very successfully assisting in maintaining internal security, law and order duties, traffic management and protecting important state and central installations.

Noke also acknowledged the HG&CD service as first responders during natural and manmade calamities.

Addressing the gathering as the special guest, director general, HG&CD, Toshitsüngba Aier described Nagaland HG&CD as a “twin organisation” that complements each other and co-exists under a common head office. 

At present out of eleven districts, Aier said Nagaland HG&CD has established the district office under district commandant in all the districts with an exception for Kiphire, Longleng and Peren districts.

Apart from carrying out its duties in assisting the assist district administration and police for maintenance of law and order etc., Aier said the organisation was also imparting and creating awareness on disaster across the state.

 Earlier, the commandant general reviewed the parade and the special guest took salute and inspected the parade contingent. Welcome address was delivered by commandant, CTI, HG&CD, S Rotokha Zhimomi. Kohima division was declared the overall champion of the professional and sports meet 2019.
