State TB forum meeting in Kohima

The first state TB Forum meeting was held at the Conference Hall of the commissioner & secretary (H&FW) on August 18 under the chairmanship of commissioner and secretary, I Himato Zhimomi.

A press release by state programme officer (RNTCP), DH&FW, Dr. Tiasunup Pongener stated that the meeting began with a welcome by the chairman followed by a round of introduction of members which included Mission Director (NHM), Project Director (NSACS), SPO (NHM), Deputy Director (NSACS), SPO (RNTCP), DTO (Kohima), President (NNP+), Project Consultant (VIHAAN), representatives of past and present TB patients and staff of RNTCP.

In the meeting, state TB officer, Dr. Tiasunup Pongener presented an overview of RNTCP in Nagaland and highlighted the activities of the program. He said that the state was facing problems in achieving its target for case notification due to absence or irregularity of Doctors in PHCs/CHCs and due to non inclusion of private practitioners earlier. He however said that the scenario was changing especially with the introduction of FDCs.

DTO, Kohima, Dr. Asunu and APO, state TB Cell, Dr. Apichet explained and demonstrated DOTS, PMDT and 99DOTs and the importance of motivation and adherence to DOTs treatment in order to prevent MDRTB.

The release also said that in order to achieve the goal of eliminating TB by 2025, active case finding has been intensified in all districts and the MOHFW has also supplied the Programme with a Mobile Van to be utilized by the districts when they conduct their activities.

During the discussion hour, I Himato Zhimomi raised the issue of non availability of IEC bill boards and hoardings on RNTCP. The matter will be put up to MD (NHM) under Mission Flexi Pool for early installation of IEC Hoardings on TB in all districts and the state capital. The chairman further suggested that DTOs and staff should participate in VHND days.

DTO Kohima also pointed out that the work load of DTOs had increased due to the goal of eliminating TB by 2025 and requested that MO(TC) be posted at all DTCs. The proposal for MOTCs for all the DTCs would be taken up in the next PIP.

The meeting concluded with the chairman proposing for the next meeting to be held within six months.
