State wide mass social work on Saturday

In pursuance to the decision adapted during the pre-monsoon preparedness meeting, commissioner & secretary, Rovilatuo Mor, has stated that a State Wide Mass Social Work will be conducted on May 4 covering all urban and rural habitations to strengthen awareness and preparedness against any vulnerable disasters during the monsoons.

DIPR, in a report quoted the commissioner & secretary as saying that all out efforts should be made by one and all in taking preventive measures against man-made disasters since “A stitch in time saves nine”. The following guidelines have been issued for enforcement for the mass social work in respective areas of responsibility:

1. All clogged drains/culverts/natural waterways are to be identified and cleared to ensure free flow of water to avoid flash floods and damage to infrastructure.

2. Encroachment of drains/ waterways/ discharge of terrace waters directly on the road surface are to be removed.

3. Undesirable water- loggings to be drained out

4. Excess rubbish dumps on waterways to be cleared.

5. All departments to take appropriate preventive measures on available infrastructure and to actively participate through respective DDMAs.

6. Department of Rural Development may effectively sensitize and mobilize social works in rural areas through the VDBs.

7. For the purpose of over-all coordination and logistic contingency expenditure, an amount of Rs. 1.00 Lakh shall be sanctioned by the Home Department to the DDMAs who will submit APRs with report of social works in respective districts within a week’s time.

Chief Secretary informs: Chief secretary, Temjen Toy, has issued a circular in connection with the pre- monsoon preparedness mass social work. According to DIPR, it states that clearing of Secretariat Office compound has been assigned to the sweepers, malis, and chowkidars. Staff will join their respective colony social work.

All directorate offices have been directed to assign clearing of office compounds to specific list of staff and direct the rest to participate in colony social work considering priority requirements. 

Meanwhile, in connection with the State wide mass social work, a control room will be set up in the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Kohima to coordinate with different departments on the day of the social work. Wokha: A meeting of all Heads of Offices under Wokha district was held on May 2 at the DC’s Conference Hall, Wokha to discuss the Mass Social Work to be held on May 4. DIPR reports that the meeting was also attended by colony chairmen and GBs of Wokha town. During the meeting ADC & Administrator Wokha Town Council informed the members that social work will begin from 7 am and continue till 12 noon. He requested all colony and ward chairmen and GBs to mobilize volunteers in their respective colonies for mass participation. All HODs were also requested to ensure that strict attendance of all government employees is taken during the social work.

According to the ADC, officers will be deputed in all colonies and wards to monitor the social work and the cleanest colony will be awarded a cash prize. 

Peren: DC Peren, SaritaYadav, has informed the public of Peren that in view of the state level Mass Social Work to be held on May 4 beginning 8 am, all HoOs have been requested to inform their respective staff to bring necessary equipment for the work. According to DIPR, the DC has also directed all departments to provide refreshments for all staff involved in the work. 

Following is the work distribution for Peren District: a) DC office junction- Zero point junction - Administration, DAO (Agriculture), PWD (R&B) & Housing; b) Zero point junction- Fire Brigade junction - Land Resource, Cooperation (ACRCS), Employment; c) Fire Brigade junction-Local ground junction – Industries, CMO (Medical), Fire Service, Horticulture; d) Local ground junction- Mongleu Bridge - Judicial, Sericulture, IPR, CVO, Irrigation, DEO (Evaluation); e) Mongleu Bridge -Peren Government College junction - DFOP (Forest), DFO (Fishery), Education, ALC (Labour), Peren Government College; f) Peren Government College junction- Sinking Zone - DRDA, PHED, Sports, NST, DSO (statistics), Planning, Art& Culture, Social Welfare, DSCO (Soil).

DUCCF informs : The Dimapur Urban Council Chairman Federation (DUCCF) has reminded all colony chairmen to mobilize colony residents for the State-wide mass social work on May 4, 6 to 8 am.

All colony residents have been advised to pile the collected drainage waste at specific points so that DMC garbage collection can collect them easily. For disposal, chairmen may contact the DMC sanitation in-charge at phone number 9615217798. 

All colony chairmen are to also take note that the DUCCF general meeting will be held on May 4, 3 pm at Tourist Lodge, Dimapur. All colony chairmen under Dimapur municipal area have been requested to attend the meeting without fail and bring their annual membership fees.
