STF reviews status of single-use plastic ban

Special Task Force (STF) for restricting plastic use Thursday met in the conference hall of the DC Dimapur and reviewed the status of restriction of single use plastic in the district. 

STF, which deliberated at length on the implementation of total ban of single-use plastic in Dimapur, reviewed the status of ban in single use plastic in Chumukedima, Niuland and Medziphema.

DC Dimapur, Anoop Khinchi, informed the house that the following penalties would be imposed on violators: First-time offence—Rs. 1000; Second-time offence—Rs. 2000 and third time offence—cancellation of trade license (Dimapur Municipal Council to levy necessary fines). The meeting also decided to conduct Information Education Communication (IEC) activities in schools and colleges to generate awareness on environmentally sustainable practices including social media campaign. 

Awareness and sensitization to be spread amongst the public regarding ban on all single use plastics including Polythene, Nylon, Thermocol, Plastic cutlery, Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC), Poly styrene and Poly propylene (PPP). It was also decided that plastic ban component would be integrated under “Swachhta Hi Seva”. 

Further, the house discussed arrangements for transport of segregated plastic waste to PWD for incorporation in construction of roads, etc. DC has directed Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) to identify plastic collection points.
