STI conducts surgery for  cleft patients in Nagaland

Smile Train India (STI), the world’s largest cleft organization, supported a four-day cleft surgery programme at Nagaland, organized by Shija Hospitals and Research Center, Imphal in collaboration with Oking Hospital and Research Clinic, Kohima. 

A press release from STI senior director, communications and business development, Anjali Katoch stated that, the programme was held to provide free treatment to children born with clefts from March 8 to 11. Twenty children across Nagaland received free surgery, besides free treatment, free medicines and travelling allowance was provided to patients. 

This marked the completion of the 40th phase of STI partner Shija Hospital’s Nagaland cleft outreach programme in collaboration with Oking Hospital and Research Clinic, Kohima, which was initiated in 2012 and has provided 445 free cleft surgeries in Nagaland through this collaboration. 

Congratulating Shija Hospitals and Research Centre and Oking Hospital on successful completion of the 40th phase of the cleft surgery programme, Ishani Biswas, programme manager, STI said, “The dedication of our partner surgeons and their team who travelled to support the children, is commendable” and “we look forward to continuing this journey with our partner hospital and achieving milestones by supporting more free cleft surgeries.”

Dr. Kh. Palin Singh, STI project director at Shija Hospitals said, “Cleft is treatable and awareness around the same is very important. Such mega camps help us reach maximum children and provide them required support timely.”
