Stranded train passengers lodged in Dmu

At least 50 train passengers, who have been left stranded here, have been lodged at Sports Authority of India (SAI) hostel and Youth Hostel, Dimapur. Among those stranded include infants, young and elderly people,

Talking to Nagaland Post, deputy commissioner (DC) Dimapur Anoop Kinchi said the stranded passengers were travelling on Avadh Assam Express and had arrived Dimapur railway station on March 24. He said the district administration and NGOs were providing food to them, while medical assistance was being provided by the medical team, which was continuously monitoring them.

The medical team urged the stranded passengers to maintain distance, use masks and sanitize their hands, besides asking to contact the team, if anyone had any health issue. 

Five rooms at the hostel are now being occupied by 23 males and 17 females, and most of them are from Mon district. One athletic coach, along with a worker, is taking care of the mess.   

Meanwhile, stating that Dimapur district administration had set up a food bank to help the needy in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the DC said any person willing to donate could contact 60099 24366 for more details.

He said the administration had also set up a community kitchen to help the homeless, stranded passengers, people in distress and those in need of help, adding the public had been informed to contact at the number provided above for any queries.

Further, the administration had also set up helpline numbers – 87944 42024 for essential commodities, 87875 51751 for ambulance service and 89747 96425 for price hike issue.
