Speaking at the opening ceremony, Zhaleo reflected on the past challenges of sportsmen like Dr. T. Ao who captained Indian team at the Olympics in 1948. “Today, we have Kivi Zhimomi who have been inducted in the U-23 Indian team and other sports persons who have made it to the top in their respective fields. It is always through commitment, dedication and perseverance that such goals are achieved,” Zhaleo stated while urging young players to be sincere and hardworking to overcome challenges.
Citing the example of Hema Das, who made headlines for setting new World Record in 400m race just recently, Zhaleo noted that “Das came from a very poor background but sheer determination, discipline and sincerity drove her to break all earlier records. In the same vein, Nagas must inculcate these dominant qualities and be committed in order to excel in any field because we have the talent.”
Zhaleo Rio, who was the Chief Patron of the ceremony, acknowledged the organisers of the event which can create interest for football lovers in the backdrop of the recently concluded World Cup.
He remarked that the PDA government under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will continue to strive for development and prosperity in all spheres. While exhorting the youths to “take advantage of the government’s vision for the welfare and uplift the youths,” Zhaleo also urged the people to play proactive roles towards a developed, congenial society.
