Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) department on Saturday said that a superspreader event at a children’s home in Mokokchung was reported where 16 persons had tested positive for Covid-19.

According to the weekly bulleting report, the event resulted in the rise of the weekly sample positivity rate of Mokokchung from 1.1% to 8.1%. Further, out of 3,750 samples that were tested during the week (November 13-19), 67 new cases were reported, out of which 17 were hospitalized and three Covid-19 fatalities.

State’s weekly sample positivity rate (WSPR) stood at 1.8% for the second consecutive week, and remained below the 5% threshold for the past 14 weeks.

Vaccination: The department further called upon all to get themselves vaccinated against Covid-19 to stay protected against severe outcomes such as hospitalization and death.

It once again reminded that fully vaccinated deaths constituted only 1.5% of all Covid-19 deaths that were recorded in the second wave. “Full protection by the vaccine will only be effective two weeks after the second dose and is critical for preventing hospitalization and death,” it said.
