Surge in weekly Covid-19 cases in Dimapur

Dimapur witnessed a spike in Covid-19 positive cases during the week as 49 fresh cases out of 54 were reported from Dimapur between January 1-7, a 100% increase in weekly new cases.

Though the overall weekly sample positivity rate (WSPR) of the state stood at 1.6%, the WSPR in Dimapur was 2%, Health & Family Welfare department stated.

Self-test/random tests contributed to 50% of all new weekly new cases and 35% from travellers, it said.

The health department further said that in view of the increasing positivity rate, growth in weekly cases and increasing positivity rate among self-tests/random tests, Dimapur has been put under situational level 2 (Yellow). The department urged all to avoid crowded places, adherence to usage of masks and vaccination.

State logs 9 fresh cases: Nagaland on Saturday recorded nine fresh Covid-19 positive cases while no deaths were reported during the day.

Of the fresh cases, eight were from Dimapur and one in Mokokchung, taking the total caseload to 32264.

Precautionary dose to be administered from Jan 10

State Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) department has informed that the precautionary dose for healthcare and frontline workers, and those over 60 years of age with co-morbidities will commence from January 10 onwards.

It said that the precautionary Covid-19 vaccine dose will be the same vaccine as has been given previously.

Further, private hospitals that function as CVC can vaccinate their staff at their respective hospitals. It said that the hospitals can provide the precautionary dose to their staff who are eligible and due, free of cost or can be charged.

The administration of precaution dose for eligible HCWs & FLWs of Armed Forces, Special Forces under Ministry of Home Affairs and Cabinet Secretariat, may also be facilitated as was done during their primary two dose vaccination, it added.
