In Manipur, a group of surrendered rebels has demanded suitable jobs opportunities from the state government and has threatened to launch agitation if the demands are not fulfilled, reports The Times of India.

Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club on Friday, the association’s spokesperson Abdul Latif said that the State Cabinet purportedly adopted a resolution on May 21, 2017 to absorb surrenderees in security forces by relaxing requisite educational qualification as well as age limit provided they are physically fit.
The cabinet had also resolved to raise a special unarmed battalion for the surrendered cadres of the state, he added.
Abdul lamented that the state government showed no concern for the welfare of surrendered militants since then.
The May 21, 2017, cabinet meeting had decided that the monthly stipend of surrendered cadres would be hiked to Rs 8000 per month from Rs 4,000 for three years.
Moreover, the one-time financial grant provided by the government would be increased from 2.5 lakh to Rs 4 lakh.
Besides, the meeting had decided that the former militants would enjoy medical reimbursement facility up to 75% of the total expenditure during their stay at rehabilitation camps for ailments declared eligible and notified by the state health directorate.
Abdul has urged the Government to deliver all the due benefits entitled to surrendered militants.
Meanwhile, K Inaobi Singh has been appointed president of the All Manipur Hills & Valley Individual Surrender Welfare Association while Th Sanahanba, O Hemanjit and Md Abdul Latif have been appointed as secretary, joint secretary and spokesperson respectively.
