Suspended police constable dies in custody

A constable of Manipur police, who was suspended and arrested in connection with the escape of an under trail prisoner died in custody on Saturday evening. The constable, Md Manjur Ahmed (35) died allegedly during interrogation in police custody. 

Ahmed was among 10 personnel of the state police and jail warders including two females arrested in connection with the escape of Thokchom Nando, a leader of proscribed militant outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), from the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences on March 26. In this connection, police inspector  Sanatomba Singh of CID(SB) has been suspended for “dereliction of duty”.
