Table top exercise conducted across the state

As per direction of Nagaland State Disaster Management Agency (NSDMA), table top exercise was held for officials in all districts for conducting mock drill, simulating extreme weather conditions etc on November 20. NEPEx 3-2019 is a mega mock drill which will be conducted on November 21 all over the state simultaneously. This mega mock drill helps in testing the capability of the state machinery to handle any kinds of disasters. Public have been requested not to panic at the sound of alarms but to co-operate for smooth conduct of the mega mock drill. 

NSDMA Home department: Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home department conducted a table-top exercise for the upcoming Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise NEPEx 3-2019. A press release from NSDMA media officer, Keren Rose stated that,  Brig. Kuldip Singh, senior specialist (Ops), NDMA briefed the participants on table-top exercise and dispensation of roles and responsibilities as per the Incident Response System (IRS). The exercise was well attended by AHODs/HODs and nodal officers from all departments. Closing remark was given by Menokhol John, principal secretary, School Education, SCERT in the programme chaired by LhouchalieViya, secretary NSDMA.  

Dimapur: Deputy commissioner (DC) Dimapur Anoop Kinchi, also the responsible officer for NEPEx Dimapur district, maintained that disaster cannot be prevented but can be mitigated and said, “for mitigation, preparedness is the best option.”  

According to DIPR report, DC said this during the table top exercise that was convened on November 20, at DC’s conference hall Dimapur.  Anoop called upon all the officials to take the exercise very seriously in order to be better equipped and to be in a better position to tackle when real disaster strikes. He asked all present to do a realistic drill on November 21, observing that with such mock drills, the district would be able to react to the situations more efficiently if such disaster occurs again.

ADC Dimapur, V. Lovitoly Sema, highlighted on the activities to be conducted during the mock drill. She further informed that all resources have to be stationed in the staging area, badminton stadium Dimapur, opposite DC’s office. 

Longleng: Table top exercise was held with all the departments of Longleng district at DC’s conference hall, Longleng, chaired by DC Longleng M. Shayung Phom.

According to DIPR report, he directed every department and government agencies to participate in the NEPEx as per the instructions and guidelines of Incident Response System without fail. ADC Longleng D. Robin spoke on the IRS system and the role and responsibilities of every Incident Response Teams, and Robi Sangtam EAC Headquarter spoke on the sequences of the actual mock drill to be performed by every department while the EAC HQ. Ihoilung Chuilo gave a power point presentation.  Two locations was identified as the incident site hit by earthquake causing collapse of building and occurrence of landslide.   

Kiphire: Kiphire district administration along with the district officers organised a table top exercise and review meeting for mock drill on emergency exercise at DC’s conference hall, chaired by DC Kiphire, Sarita Yadav. She informed the members on their roles and responsibilities and asked them to positively act their assigned work.  ADC Kiphire, Reny Wilfred, highlighted on how to generate greater awareness on the issue of disaster management. SP Kiphire, Amit Nigam, also highlighted law and order situation during natural calamities.

DDMA Kohima: Kohima district disaster management authority (DDMA) organised table-top exercise under the chairmanship of deputy commissioner Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie.

A press release from DDMA stated that, DC said that the NEPEx 2019 exercise would be focusing on the landslide and its related effects in occurrence of the event. ADC Kohima. Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa gave an introduction on the NEPEx 2019 exercise and further highlighted the identified places for the NEPEx 2019 exercise. The members were also made clear of their doubts for the conduct of the exercise as well as for future references. District project officer DDMA, Victor Yhome gave an overview of the incident response system structure and also highlighted the roles and responsibilities of incident response team, incident commander, operation section, planning section and logistic section for the conduct of the NEPEx 2019 exercise.
