Take me as common people’s candidate: Hayithung Tungoe

Correspondent KOHIMA, MAR 27 (NPN) | Publish Date: 3/27/2019 1:06:08 PM IST

Former BJP national secretary and NPP candidate for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, Hayithung Tungoe (Bill Lotha) has appealed to the people to take him as a “humble common people’s candidate and not as the NPP candidate”.

He said this while interacting with media persons at Lerie colony Kohima after filing his nominations on the last day (March 25). He said as an anti-Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) crusader, circumstances and a “spiritual calling from within” compelled him to contest the elections.

He expressed belief that that this Parliamentary polls would be a different one in Nagaland, a Christian state, where God’s miracle would be shown.

On being asked about his priorities, he said it was to sensitize the people of Nagaland and North East on the dangers of CAB, as NE had been infiltrated by lakhs of illegal immigrants. If the CAB is implemented, he said immigrants from Bangladesh will swarm small states like Nagaland. He also predicted if CAB was implemented, the people can expect a Bangladeshi chief minister within ten years, because in a democracy, numbers matter.

On why he chose the NPP party, Lotha said the NPP national president and chief minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma was his biggest inspiration because of Sangma’s love for the North East people and for being an anti-CAB activism forerunner. He also said that the NPP is one party that is tribal and indigenous people centric.
