Public Action Committee (PAC) under the aegis of Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has urged the deputy commissioner (DC) Dimapur to take appropriate measures to contain multiple taxation, syndicate and lease system operating in Dimapur.

In a representation addressed to the DC Dimapur, PAC (NCD) convenor, Vekhosayi Nyekha, and co-convenor and NCD vice president, K Ghokheto Chophy, pointed out that rampant multiple taxation, syndicate and lease system operating in and around Dimapur district has compounded the uncontrolled inflation in all prices in the market affecting the consumers of the district and the state.

PAC stated that “this unethical practice” has been continuing unabated in spite of peaceful public demonstrations and rallies on several occasions in the past in Dimapur district and all over the state by different forums and NGOs spear headed by ACAUT. However, it alleged that the state government has so far failed to take concrete measures to control and curb “this unabated menace” and regulate pricing policy in the district as well as in the whole state for the welfare of the people.

PAC said the situation compelled the citizens of Dimapur district to take a decision on “One Government and One Tax” at a Public Rally on October 31, 2013.

Pointing out that it had constituted a fact finding committee to study and verify the magnitude of the matter, PAC said the report of the findings was shocking. In the light of the above, the PAC has urged the DC Dimapur to take necessary appropriate measures to contain the issues in other to safeguard the consumers and general public.

PAC expressed hope that the district administration would take cognisance of the genuine demand by dismantling the “broad day light robbery” operating under the disguised of various organizations, unions, Naga national workers and govt agencies without further delay.
