Teachers training underway in Kma

Two-day, hands on training on mathematics and science subject teachers under Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan (RAA) programme got underway at the conference hall Directorate of School Education, Kohima on Tuesday.
The programme is organized by Nagaland education mission society Samagra Shiksha Nagaland in collaboration with Unit of Science and Education Development (UNISED). The trainers are subject expert nominated by IIT Kanpur.  
State mission director, Samagra Shiksha, Kevileno Angami in her opening remarked said the students of government school have potential to perform well in mathematics and science subjects if they were nurture properly. 
She encouraged the teachers to instil students with interest and curiosity for maths and science subjects. 
She said that Government of Nagaland has signed MoU with IIT Kanpur to train 92 science and maths teachers to be the trainers. She therefore advised the teachers to learn something from the training and teach to the children.                                  
Director UNISED IIT, Kanpur Javed in his address said the science and mathematics teachers have to make the concept and process clear and make the subject interesting. He advised teachers to create the classroom interesting and make students feel with curiosity to learn. Javed also reminded the gathering that making the students understand, clear the concept and proper observation were essential for the students to perform better.  
Subject expert nominated by IIT Kanpur Anurag M.Tech along with Javed demonstrated based on light, magnets and its properties, electricity, force and pressure, heat and wave, chemistry practical/way forward and others. There were interaction and discussion with the participating science and mathematics teachers.
On the first phase of training, around 60 science and maths teachers from GMS, GHSS of Dimapur district attended the programme. In the second phase, training will be held on June 20 and 21 for science and maths teachers from districts of Kohima, Phek and Kiphire.
On the sideline of the programme, an official informed that 92 science and mathematics teachers would be trained from four districts Dimapur (46 schools), Kohima (18 schools), Kiphire (13 schools) and Phek (5 schools) on pilot basis. He said the selection of teachers will be based from students’ enrolment in their schools. 
He informed that after this training the particular school should report monthly to the head office about its performance and there would be evaluation by third party for school grading. At the end of the training all the teachers would be given maths and science kits to teach their students.
