Temjen inaugurates boys’ hostel at MTC Wokha

Minister of Higher Education & Technical Education and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along inaugurated the boys’ hostel and indoor sports complex at Mt. Tiyi College (MTC) Wokha on November 23.

According to DIPR report, addressing the inaugural function, Temjen stated that the joy of inaugurating or being part of establishing institution was to see that the seeds of the future were reflected in the right direction. He thanked the government of India and Nagaland for the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) project which has given 100% success story to the department of Higher Education and its institutions in Nagaland. He further congratulated the directorate officials and RUSA project director and the contractors for the good quality workmanship exhibited and completing the works on time.

Minister also informed that under RUSA another two crores for construction of college class rooms was being sanctioned, where he appealed the land owners and stake holders to extend cooperation for successful completion of work for the benefit of coming generation. Thanking the leaders and people of Wokha and Zunheboto districts for being relentless in its effort which has made these two colleges accredited under NAAC, Temjen Imna also assured to make sure that science stream was introduced in both the colleges. Imna also urged the principal, faculty, ministerial staff and students to have goals, visualise beyond time and work hard unceasingly and persistently and give their best for the up-liftment of the college.

During the programme, Lt. Mhondamo Kithan (first education minister, Nagaland) Memorial Award for academic excellence for the year 2020 was awarded to Achano N. Ovung (college highest scorer) in Economic honours which was handed over by Temjen Imna. Handing over the award Imna Along said, late Mhondamo had made a momentous journey and relentlessly pursued excellence for the younger generation. Dr. S. Tssikhen Kithan, speaking on behalf of the family members said that the award was to keep the hope and knowledge alive and to serve as a source of encouragement for the students in achieving their goals.

The boys hostel has been constructed under RUSA funded by minister of Education, department of Higher Education, GOI and GON, while the indoor sports complex was constructed under UGC (University Grants Commission) funded under minister of Human Resource Development, India.

Giving a brief technical report of the boy’s hostel, SDO, PWD Housing, Education division, Kohima, Er. Sentimenbang Jamir said the total estimated amount for the hostel was 2 crores with 50 bedded facilities and the work commenced on February 2, 2015 and was completed on April 28, 2018.

Advisor of Horticulture & Border Affairs, Mhathung Yanthan, director Higher Education, Dr. Abeni and host of department officials and state BJP party officials accompanied the minister. Wokha Town Baptist Church, Wokha town, Rev. Khonpemo P Kikon offered the dedicatory prayer for both the new buildings.
