NPCC president K. Therie and NPF legislature party leader, T.R. Zeliang held a joint campaign for the INC candidate K.L. Chishi in Mon Monday wherein both leaders explained that NPF and Congress has joined hands against the ruling PDA coalition to safeguard Nagas, secularism and to scrap CAB which BJP has promised.

In his speech NPCC president K. Therie maintained that two issues divide the nation - BJP’s Uniform Civil Code (one nation, one religion and one law) and communalism. He said Congress believed in secularism and for unity in diversity. On the BJP’s promise to legislate Citizenship Amendment Bill, Therie it was an agenda of the RSS and if passed, Nagas will become minorities in their own land when crores of immigrants , majority of who are in north east, will be granted Indian citizenship and voting rights. NPF spokesperson Achumbemo said NPF as the oldest regional part in the north east and the second in the country, decided to join hands with Congress for a common interest- fight against CAB to protect the rights of Nagas.

He also appealed to vote consciously and not be lured by money. He also criticised PDA candidate and sitting MP Tokheho who abstained from voting when CAB was passed in the Lok Sabha. Achumbemo said if Tokheho sincerely wanted to work for the interests of Nagas then why did he not vote against CAB?

NPF leader T.R. Zeliang urged party workers not to be disheartened by the recent actions of a few party MLAs but to remember that there are better days ahead as there is always sunshine after rains. He also maintained that the other reason why NPF was supporting Congress was the latter’s manifesto to review Armed Forces Special Powers Act(AFSPA) while the BJP president Amit Shah at a rally in Udhampur, J&K instead, promised to strengthen the Act.

He also accused chief minister Neiphiu Rio of “buying off intending candidates of NPF and NPP” for the by-election at Aonglenden constituency.

Zeliang also criticised the PDA booklet titled “One Year Achievements of PDA” in which Rio claimed credit even for those contributed by NPF. He said the PDA has not done anything except harvesting the labour sowed and grown by NPF.

INC candidate K.L. Chishi maintained that he is contesting to fight for the cause of Nagas, their rights, faith, custom and tradition etc if elected. He hit out at Rio for stating that there was no need for CAB as ILP and Article 371A will protect Nagaland. He said if Rio and Tokheho wanted to learn law he was willing to teach them. He also appealed to people to vote with conscience and for the cause of Nagas and secularism.

Y.M.Yollow MLA of 42 Wakching constituency, urged upon party workers to work for the party and follow party directives irrespective of what their elected members said. He expressed optimism about the prospects of NPF in the coming days.
