Thunder strike kills 2, injures 3 at West Khasi Hills

 In an unfortunate incident, two people were killed and three others were injured after being struck by a lightning at Mawkadiang village in West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya on Tuesday, reports The Northeast Today.

The deceased have been identified as Phuldaris Marwein (40 yrs) and Horbius Jyrwa (20 yrs) of Mawkadiang village under West Khasi Hills and the three injured are Halman Marwein, Thalian Marwein and Riantiful Kharsyiemlieh of the same village.

Source informed that the incident took place on Tuesday morning at around 11.45 AM while they were working in the paddy field.

After the incident, the Headman of the locality rush to the spot and immediately informed the police. All the five were taken to the hospital where two of them succumbed to their injuries and the three others have been admitted at Nongstoin Civil Hospital and are under medical treatment.

Meanwhile, a Hial storm accompanied by a heavy rain hit several villages in Maweit area under West Khasi Hills. The Hailstorm damaged around 65 houses in different villages and also destroyed agricultural crops.. The incident occurred on 20th April at around 2.00 AM at the area under Nongstoin Block of West Khasi Hills District.

Several villages that were affected include Maweit, Nongpathar, Nongtraw, Umthli, Mawlait, Mawriat, Mawlangriang, Nongsiengsning, Nongkyllan and Tiehsaw.

BDO, Nongstoin C&RD Block C.P Mawkon said that he has sent his team to take stock on the incident and to assess the matter. He stated that relief materials will be sent to the victims once assessment is completed and report submitted.
