Total shutdown cripple Imphal

Correspondent IMPHAL, AUG 10 | Publish Date: 8/10/2018 11:40:50 AM IST

Normal life in Imphal was severely affected owing to a total shutdown call given by various civil society organizations (CSOs) in protest against Centre’s purported   intention to extend Article 371 (A) in the Naga inhabited areas of Manipur. The shutdown, however, did not disturb normal vehicular movement.

During the shutdown, members of the CSOs staged a sit-in-demonstration along with women vendors of Kwairamband Keithel and Nupi Keithel (Women market). Talking to reporters, women leaders alleged that government of India was attempting to distort the unity and integrity of people of the state by spewing communal venoms on the different communities.

They also alleged that Centre’s intention to extend Article 371(A) in Naga inhabited areas of Manipur was nothing but a part of its repeated attempt to distort the territorial integrity of the state.

The protestors said they were also ready to sacrifice their life for the sake of Manipur’s territorial integrity.

The protestors also demanded convening of a special Assembly session to discuss on the latest development of the Framework Agreement signed between NSCN (I-M) and the Centre.

Sit-in-protests were also organized at various places in valley.
