Town council status granted to Niuland

State government has officially recognised and granted Niuland sub-division as full-fledged town council on Friday. 
Niuland has a population of 1158 of which 595 are males while 563 are females as per population census 2011.
On the occasion, the monolith, celebrating the recognition of town council, was unveiled by minister of PHED, Jacob Zhimomi after it was dedicated by SBC Niuland pastor, Tokivi Yeptho.
Jacob described the occasion as a landmark achievement for the people of Niuland and said that the area has been marked in the special economic zone for its strategic position and accessibility.  
He said with the recognition of town council, more developmental activities will take place and therefore, called upon the people to contribute so that the town could progress in line with others. 
The minister also spoke on the importance of agri-allied centre, and reminded the gathering that in Nagaland, agriculture has become the center staged in the economy and that any situational change in this section, positive or negative, will have a multiplier effect on the entire economy.
Speaking as special guest, advisor, Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire shared on the importance of self-sustenance.
He said that grants-in-aid under the upcoming 15 finance commission, money will be sent to all the Urban Local Bodies and municipal councils.
He therefore encouraged the council to be sincere and remember the three D’s- dedication, determination and devotion. 
Kire also flagged off the Niuland town council sanitation truck and 35 solar lights were also installed at Niuland. 
Niuland area Kükami hoho president, Vikheyi Zhimo said that Nuiland has been a sub-division for the past 33 years.
Earlier, the programme chaired by municipal affairs department, director Chenithung began with a welcome address by ADC Nuiland, Athrila S. 
Kuhoxu Baptist Church associate women pastor, Angukali Zhimo said the benediction. 
On the occasion, women cultural group, Niuland presented folk song. 
The programme was attended by DMC administrator Albert Ezung, GBs of the village and elders.
