Dimapur Traffic Police (DTP) on Sunday took the initiative to pave the junction leading from the National Highway into Walford Colony to ease traffic woes. This junction that leads to Walford Colony, at the west end of the new Dhansiri Bridge is one of the worst bottlenecks for daily commuters of the highway. 
DTP, under the aegis of the Dy. Commissioner of Police (traffic), decided to pave this junction with concrete, using their own funds in an effort to address the issue.
Officials present at the work site explained that many drivers prefer to take the Walford Colony road that connects to the main Walford road towards Supermarket in order to avoid traffic jams at Burma Camp police point. Most of the drivers, particularly from outside Dimapur, either did not know about the dilapidated Nagarjan bridge or do not want to risk driving over it. This has made the Walford colony road a favourite for many motorists.
However, DTP said that the traffic snarls from here creates a domino effect that can run up to Purana Bazaar and even beyond. 
“We cannot solve everything, but we are hopeful that this little effort will at least prove beneficial” an official said. Work on the road began early Sunday morning when the traffic rush was at its lowest ebb and was done by around 2:30 p.m. Though they have put up barriers, DTP has also appealed to commuters to not use the road for the next two to three days to allow the mortar mix to dry.
