Training on COVID-19 containment and management in peri-urban, rural and tribal areas for senior medical officers, medical officers and community health officers was held in the conference hall of the chief medical officer (CMO) Wokha on September 14. 

During the training, CMO Wokha Dr. C. W. Tungoe said the training was organised for healthcare workers to intensify COVID testing and contact tracing at rural areas in the district.

Expressing concern over the low testing rate in the district, CMO urged the healthcare units with low testing rate to ramp up testing. 

Resource person of the training, epidemiologist, Dr. Khesheli Awomi presented a brief report of the district COVID-19 profile from 2020 till date.

She informed that during the first wave of the pandemic, the positive cases were confined to the armed forces and were mostly asymptomatic in the district.

In the second wave, young people between the age group of 15-29 years were mostly affected and positivity rate in the district was 2.2 percent in September, she added. 

Dr. Khesheli also conducted a session on COVID-19 containment plan which included topics on cluster containment strategy, role of district rapid response team, containment zones, etc.

Session on role and responsibility of health workers to contain the disease was conducted by deputy chief medical officer, Dr. Zuben Kikon, who informed that out of 378 positive cases in the district, 273 were not vaccinated.

Dr. Zuben noted the active role of block rapid response team in containing the disease.
