Training on HIV held in Kiphire

One-day training on Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and syphilis screening for female health workers was conducted at chief medical office (CMO) conference hall, Kiphire on June 26. 

District tuberculosis officer (DTO), Dr. Hedungkiebe and district programme officer (DPO), DAPCU, Tsiatuvi, were the resource persons.

A press release from CMO office, media officer, Atsali T, stated that DTO, Dr. Hedungkiebe, delivered an overview comprehensive role of ANM staff nurse in handling diagnosis of HIV and syphilis. He also demonstrated on how white blood cells work as safe guard mechanism in a body and highlighted on syphilis disease, a sexually transmitted infection, and its important preventive steps to fight against the disease. 

Basics concepts of HIV and AIDS and syphilis, differences between HIV and AIDS, immunity and infection game, roles of white blood cells and how HIV weakens Immune System and factors affecting progression of HIV infection to AIDS, were some of the topics presented by the resource persons.

DPO, DAPCU, Tsiatuvi also highlighted the benefits of anti-retroviral therapy and said that early treatment was safe and effective for mothers and also saves the baby. Health workers were trained with the main objective to make proper treatment and awareness on HIV and syphilis.
