Tripura HC summons BJP MLA in post-poll violence case

The Tripura High Court has summoned ruling BJP MLA along with four of his associates to appear before Court on July 29 in connection with the post poll violence case in the state, reports The Northeast Today.

The five accused include BJP MLA Ramprasad Paul, who is also the vice president of the state party unit, his brother Tulsi Paul, Shankar Chakraborty, Kartik Das and Ajay Patari.
It may be mentioned that three separate FIRs were lodged with an incident of political clash that took place on May 23 last after final phase of general elections.
Earlier, during the hearing of case numbers, 68, 69 and 71 of Amtali police station, when a movement of bails under case-71 was presented by advocate Lodh, the High Court observed that the police were not cooperative and were not taking any steps as per legal provisions of the case to arrest all accused persons.
Later on Friday, during the hearing, Justice Lodh ordered the three Investigating Officers to present the case dairy (CD) to inquire into the progress of the investigations.
However, the court did not find satisfactory reply by the Investigating Officers, though, police claimed that they had organized several raids to arrest few persons for case number 69.
The HC ordered the five to be present before the court on Monday before 2 PM.
During the hearing of the case public prosecutor (PP) Babul Chowdhury was also present in the court of Justice Aridam Lodh.
It may be mentioned the Supreme Court had on Friday admitted a case filed by Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee President and royal scion, Pradyot Manikya Deb Burman seeking compensation from the state government for the violence meted in the state post the Lok Sabha polls 2019.
