The 23rd Freshers' Social of the Thenyizumi Students' Union Kohima under the theme ‘strategizing for success’ was held at Conclave Conference Hall, LCS Building Kohima on Saturday.

Associate professor SCERT, Vekutulu Theyo in her address as the guest speaker on the occasion asked the students to set specific goals and plans in order to pursue their careers. “Having a strategy is a plan of action chosen to bring about a desired future,” said the professor.

Reminding the students that government jobs were saturated, she asked the students to look for other avenues. Stating that God had given enough potential to every individual to succeed, she asked the students to make a career choice.

“If you don't have an aim in life, how can you succeed in life? Studying in college is not a plan it is a process” she said.  “Now is the right time to think about your career and not after you finish your degree... Start exploring your options, its okay to ask help and seek counselling,” she added.

While listing some of the career options which the students could pursue in different fields, Theyo also asked the students to draw an academic master plan, studying goal and organise a study space.

In her concluding remarks she quoted the Bible verse Mathew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Vesetalu Swuro, chairperson Thenyizumi Women Society exhorted the students and the fresher’s to excel in their careers through hard work and effort. She said the students were the bank accounts where the parents were investing in and, Swuro expressed hope, that one day this investment would pay off.

While acknowledging the students, she reminded them not to forget their roots where they were from and to seek God quoting the Bible verse “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge” (Proverbs 1:7a)

New office members were elected during the program with Khrunuto Kezo as the president, vice president Aveto Resu, and general secretary Khrunutalu Swuro for the tenure of 2018-19.
