Tamlu, Yongnyah and Namsang Area (TYNA) public forum has taken exception to the statement made by minister of higher technical education Temjen Imna Along that “the issue of polytechnic was not politics but of the location”. In a press release, TYNA public forum president Büphei Phom and general secretary, V Longba Phom also described as “completely irrational and provocative” the remark of the minister that an institute has to be in an accessible location and not in the middle of a forest or an island. The forum wondered when did the minister visit Yungho polytechnic site that he was giving such a “derogatory statement.”

TYNA public forum said it was “very much unbecoming” of an elected member to make “such partial statement.” It said that minister’s statement exposed his intention to create misunderstanding and division among the people. According to the forum, the Yungho polytechnic site was selected by the government after fulfilling all the government criteria and feasibilities.

It demanded to know that what made Along to make “such a biased statement” that holds no water.

TYNA forum said minister’s remark was “self contradictory” as the Yungho polytechnic site was selected by his own department after verifying all the feasibilities. “The Yungho polytechnic institution is only 20 kms away from the dist. Hq. with good road, sufficient water, electricity and the site is gentle slope where there is immense scope for expansion of the institution in future,” it stated. The forum also stated that the site was accessible to all the people of the district and state as a whole unlike the recently inaugurated Hukphang polytechnic site, which it claimed was in the hillock area.
