Rebel group, the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) on Friday claimed responsibility for the twin blasts inside Imphal’s Mapal Kangjeibung in which four persons including three Assam Rifles personnel were injured.

The UNLF, in an emailed statement, claimed that the blast targeting the “Indian Occupational Force (IOF)” was carried out by two cadres of its armed wing, Manipur People’s Army (MPA).

The hand grenades were lobbed allegedly targeting Assam Rifles personnel, who were preparing for an equestrian championship to be hosted by Director General of Assam Rifles at the Polo Ground.

Meanwhile, police commandos today conducted a cordon search operation in areas of the western side of Mapal Kangjeibung (Polo Ground) in the aftermath of the twin blasts.
