Various colleges & union conduct fresher’s day and annual day

Fresher’s day and college annual day was held by various colleges in Kohima and Dimapur at their respective institutions.  

KBSUK: Khuzazu Basa Students’ Union Kohima (KBSUK) held its 10th general session-cum-freshers meet under the theme “Curiosity, knowledge, purpose” with OSD academic & research, department of Higher Education, Nagaland, Medongoi Rhakho as guest speaker at LCS Building Kohima on June 22.
A press release from KBSUK president Bodelu Rhakho stated that, the guest speaker talked about two creations, wherein first creation was mental creation and the second creation physical or actual creation.  
Kohima Chakhesang Students’ Union Kohima (KCSU) general secretary Khrukute Lohe also spoke on the occasion.
Delivering presidential address, KBSUK president Bodelu Rhakho congratulated all the successful students who excelled during this academic year and wished them a bright future. She also extended heartiest congratulation to Vetsulu Keyho and Reyita Keyho for securing distinctions in all the subjects.
The session chaired by Vetholu Rhakho was graced by seniors students, parents and special invitees from different student bodies.
UCD: Unity College Dimapur (UCD) observed its 13th freshers social-cum-annual day on June 22 in the college premises, which started with a tree plantation by the chief guest, professor Pardeshi Lal, vice chancellor (VC), NU.
A press release from dean students welfare, Mhonbeni Jami stated that, VC encouraged the students to focus on the values of life rather than marks alone. Prof. Lal mentioned about SWAYAM, a programme initiated by the Govt. of India and designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy – Access, Equity and Quality and MOOCs which is a free online courses available for anyone to enroll. He urged the students to register for these courses and acquire skills to equip themselves with skills and education beyond the classroom.
Pastor Among Lemtur of New Life Nagaland invoked God’s blessings upon the freshers.  Dr. Lichumo Enie, principal delivered the welcome address and speech on behalf of the freshers’ was delivered by Julika K Sheqi.  Speeches on behalf of the seniors and alumni were also given by Hachithung Ngullie and Krelo Vincenza respectively.
The 12th edition of the college magazine “Nurture” was also released during the programme. Meritorious students in the recently declared NU examination were felicitated along with Grace I Namgi who was declared the student of the year 2019 and certificate of excellence was given to assistant professor, Dr. Vivolhuno Punyu, History.
During the entertainment session many songs, dances and ramp walk was performed by Mr. & Ms. Freshers participants. Talikaba Longkumer and Atele Mero were crowned as Mr. Fresher and Ms. Fresher 2019 respectively.
SJC Jakhama: Annual fresher’s day, 2019 of St. Joseph’s College (SJC) Jakhama was held at the college indoor stadium on June 22, with Vikepelhou Lucas Meyase (Retd) director of School Education as guest speaker. 
A press release from SJC media cell stated that, Vikepelhou Meyase in his speech congratulated the college for the many achievements especially in the recent status of autonomy. He encouraged the students to be good citizens of the land and to “aim high, cooperate with the rules and regulations of the institution” and to achieve the many goals they have set.
In his welcome note, Fr. Dr. Sebastian Ousseparampil, principal welcomed the nearly 1600 freshers who have joined the college this year. He also welcomed all the other dignitaries and especially the Jakhama villagers and termed them as people who have always been there “through triumphs and tragedies.” 
Speaking on behalf of the seniors, Veihrunu William Ramai said, “welcome home to the great family” of the Josephites. Freshers were introduced by their respective CRs/VCRs. Fancy Swaggers, famous dance crew of the college gave a performance. Eastern Naga Josephites gave a spectacular folk dance. Freshers’ Voice was presented by Talimoa and Echungbeni.
Earlier, in the programme hosted by Hinakha Zhimo and Enny Sekhose, invocation was offered by Rev. Fr. C. Joseph and vote of thanks was proposed by Aloka A. Awomi. 
MGM College: MGM College celebrated its 3rd fresher’s day on June 22, with Archbishop of Calcutta Diocese, under Malankara orthodox Syrian Church, Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius as the chief guest. 
A press release from MGM College, stated that the Archbishop exhorted the fresher’s to maintain good aspiration in life, have God’s grace in correlation with planned hard work and constant conscious effort for victory. He also added that education was a medium to transfer cultural heritage and values to generations. He further encouraged the students on three aspects of life; to grow and develop, to make life abundant and celebrate physical and eternal life - a balance of both. 
Elilo Ovung and Anoto H. Yeptho were declared as Miss Fresher and Mr Fresher respectively for the academic year, 2019.
