Four vehicles were Thursday set ablaze while another vehicle was damaged along NH-37 as normal life was affected in parts of Manipur during a 24-hour bandh in Zeliangrong area called by Zeliangrong civil organizations.

According to official reports, suspected bandh supporters torched two loaded trucks carrying essentials along NH-37 at Pongringlong area (between Tupul and Seijang). The suspects further set afire to two more passenger vehicles at Keiphundai area along the same highway at around 11 am. They also damaged another passenger vehicle in the same area.

The bandh was called by Zeliangrong Baudi and Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland) and the All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (AZSU).

The bandh has been called to press the Centre and state government to book NSCN (I-M) cadres allegedly involved in the abduction and detention of leaders of the ZYF and Zeliangrong students.

The bandh severely hit normal life at Zeliangrong dominated Tamenglong and Noney districts of the state.

Reports said that owing to the bandh, streets in Tamenglong and Noney district headquarters wore a deserted look with only few private vehicles seen on the roads.

Most of the shops and business establishments in these district headquarters remained close. No inter-district service vehicles arrived from Imphal for the day, the reports added.
