35-year-old Vekuzo Vezuh emerged as the champion of 26th Wrestling Meet 2020 of Phek Area Wrestling Association (PAWA) held at Phek town on Wednesday.

Veteran wrestler Vezuh of Khomi village downed 23-year-old, Serayi of Khuza village in the final bout to take the title. 

The champion Vezuh received a cash prize of Rs. 80,000, while second position Serayi was awarded with a cash of Rs. 60,000.

26-year-old Kuluveto Venuh of Phek village stood in third position and 20-year-old Basayi Keyho of Phek village stood fourth position. They received Rs 40,000 and Rs. 30, 000 respectively. 

Quarter finalists Vekutho Soho and Surhovoyi Nienu were awarded with Rs. 3000 each.

Earlier, gracing the inaugural function, MLA Küzholuzo (Azo) Nienu said that sports have become one of the biggest industries in the universe. In this, he called upon the youth to be more dedicated, committed and sincere to compete with the rest of the world. Azo also urged the youth to involve in the field of arm wrestling, mix martial arts, open championship and the famous Ultimate Fighting Championship.

MLA Kezhienyi Khalo encouraged the wrestlers to be courageous and dedicated in whatever discipline one takes up. Only through hard work and dedication one can make it to the top, Khalo said.

PAWA president Kuniesa Vero delivered welcome address while the inaugural function was led by PAWA vice president Shekhohu Chizo. While 12 best seniors and four under-16 years wrestlers will represent PAWA in the forth coming 27th wrestling tournament of Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) scheduled for February 18 at Phek town. Meanwhile, under-16 wrestling event will take place on January 30.
