 ASSURES TO TAKE UP SALARY ISSUE THROUGH NCSK

National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK), chairman, M Venkatesan had an interactive session with safai karamcharis (sanitary workers) at Kohima municipal office, here on Tuesday.

In a brief remark Venkatesan shared about how he grew up from a family with both his parents employed as sanitary workers. 

He said the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, with his vision to uplift young Indians gave the chairmanship post to young person like himself and that too the first from South India to hold the position.

Venkatesan urged the sanitary workers to share their grievances with him so that he could take it up with the higher authorities through the commission and if necessary even with the PM and president of the country.

Later, he interacted with sanitary workers and took notes of their grievances and problems.

In his closing remark, he pointed out that the main issue of faced by the karamcharis were low salary and lack of work equipment.

He assured them that he would take up the salary issue through the Commission.

Meanwhile he urged the deputy commissioner (DC), Kohima, Gregory Thejawhelie to assist karamcharis to get registered under PM’s life and accident insurances to which the DC assured that he would help.

Venkatesan further said he had arranged a meeting with the governor of Nagaland at Guwahati tomorrow and therefore he would take up various issues faced by the karamcharis.

Earlier, DC in his welcome address thanked the chairman for coming to the state to look into the wellbeing of the karamcharis.

He expressed hope that the state karamcharis would be benefited in many ways through the visit.

The interaction programme was chaired by KMC administrator T Lanusenla Longkumer who also proposed the vote of thanks.

The programme was attended by more than 50 karamcharis employed under KMC.

Interaction with state government officials

NCSK chairman, Venkatesan also held a meeting with state government officials in the conference hall of the Nagaland civil secretariat, Kohima on Tuesday.

During the interaction programme, he said that there were various schemes and programmes in place initiated by the government of India for the benefit of safai karamcharis and their families.

Venkatesan encouraged the state government machineries to work towards creating awareness so that targeted beneficiaries would be able to avail the benefits.

Earlier, the meeting was chaired by principal secretary p&ar, Ramakrishnan while commissioner & secretary Sarah R Ritse proposed vote of thanks.
