Waste management under SBM-G held in Noklak

Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Noklak under the aegis of Swachh Bharat Mission-Grameen (SBM-G) conducted a programme for distribution of dustbins for Noklak town at PHE store, Noklak on September 24.

According to DIPR report, speaking on the occasion, EAC (Hq) Noklak, Yithachu Thur stressed on the importance of community participation and community ownership towards waste management. The issues of poor waste management have led to a plethora of problems that were detrimental to environment, leading to water logging, landslides and also health issues, EAC stated. He also added that waste management was collective responsibility - both individual and community. Ward/sector leaders were encouraged to come up with innovative ideas and local means for effective management of waste.
Highlighting on Swachh Bharat Mission-Grameen, SDO PHE Noklak, Er. Khaoshai Lam stressed that sanitation was everybody’s business where active participation of all individual was needed for proper waste management. He also emphasised on importance of waste segregation into wet and dry waste products at house hold level. The officer called for behavioural change that would sustain the continual effort on waste management and to re-affirm the commitment towards building a healthier and cleaner nation. He encouraged the gathering to start a compost pit in every household that can be used in kitchen gardens. Programme was chaired by SO PHED T. Puchong and attended by representatives from all wards under Noklak town. Dustbins were also distributed to all wards.
