WCYO biennial sports meet underway at Bade

The six-day Western Chakhesang Youth Organisation (WCYO) Biennial Sports Meet began Monday at Bade village with Isaac Kronu, Class-I Contractor, as the special guest. 

Addressing the inaugural programme, Kronu exhorted the participants and guests to continue to pursue sports activity for better health and quality of living. Chakhesang community is known for honesty, simplicity and good nature and therefore sports meet is the perfect opportunity to learn and maintain the pride of the community while also teaching the same to others, said the special guest. Kronu also appreciated the Western Chakhesang community for being self reliant and not depending on the native district for economic growth.
Also speaking at the programme, Lhüvesayi Lohe, president, Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) reiterated the resolutions of the CYF on the prohibition of jungle burning, hunting and sale of wildlife, sale of pork from outside sources in Phek district and the resolution to uphold and enforce the decision of the Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) against same sex marriage. He also added that the resolutions are applicable to all Chakhesang citizens irrespective of geographical location.
WCYO president, Likalo Letro delivered the welcome address while the programme was chaired by Shekhotso Medeo, vice president, WCYO. Opening prayer was offered by Rev. Dr. Weyiete Lohe, senior pastor, CBCD. Kekhrie Medeo presented a special song while Thükünülü Cürha and Vetahülü Sapu presented a folk song. The oath was administered to the participants by Zekote Wezah, assistant games and sports secretary, WCYO.
It may be mentioned that the WCYO was formed in 1970 while the 1st Biennial sports meet was held in 1973. Presently, the WCYO consists of 17 units out of which 16 units are participating in the 6-day meet which will see competition in football, volleyball, badminton and relay race.
