Old Yanmhon Village (OYV) council under Bhandari, Wokha district has sought the assistance of concern departments to address the rampage of wild elephants, which the council claimed have destroyed several acres of farming.

In a press release, OYV council said on July 5 around 11 p.m, a heard of wild elephants numbering around 20 destroyed around 26 acres of ginger and jhum cultivation in Old Yanmhon village.

The council said that the village and its neighbouring villages have been facing this problem every year for the past 20 years and that wild elephants have become a threat to the villagers.

It also pointed out that such incidents have made life hard for villagers.

In this regard, the council has urged the forest and agriculture departments to look into the matter and come up with a “sustainable solution” to the issue.
