Wildlife Division Dimapur conducts awareness programme at Akumen village

The Wildlife Division Dimapur (WDD) team led by wildlife warden Dimapur (WWD), K Caroline Angami (IFS) underwent an awareness programme at Akumen village, Mokokchung on July 9. 
A press release by wildlife warden Dimapur, K. Caroline Angami stated that, the programme was organized after a leopard attacked a local villager few days ago injuring him in the vicinity of Akumen village. Villages of Lirmen and Tsurmen participated in the awareness programme.
In her address, Caroline Angami distributed guidelines and manual books of Wildlife Protection Act 1972 to the three villages as a sign of appreciation and to update themselves.    
Bano Haralu, director of Nagaland Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Trust as the resource person, exhorted the participants to have a holistic approach on mitigation of wildlife conflict. She asserted that humans and wild animals have lived together in the past and was in no way different today. 
She added that with an ever increasing demand for resources, it only became more imperative to become proactive in conservation and mark a sense of belongingness to the surrounding areas.
Visual clips on wildlife crime and videos on mutual coexistence of humans with leopard were also shown to further augment and give more practical information to the viewers.    
Deputy ranger, Wildlife Crime Control Unit (WCCU) Imnanukshi also commended the success of the programme and thanked the participants of Akumen village for their unwavering support and hospitality. 
The programme was chaired by Kikavi Chophi, forest ranger, WCCU and invocation delivered by pastor I. Temjen from Akumen village.
