Will reject any economic package: ENPO

DIMAPUR, JUL 19 (NPN) | Publish Date: 7/20/2018 12:25:36 AM IST
Eastern Nagaland peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) Thursday reiterated that it would reject any economic package in lieu of its demand for a separate state.
ENPO through its media cell, however, clarified that it was not opposed to any economic package for the backward region of the state provided it was not under the name of ENPO.
While maintaining their commitment to the statehood demand, the people of six tribes ––Chang, Khiamniungan, Konyak, Phom, Sangtam and Yimchunger under the aegis of ENPO, reiterated their “uncompromising stand” to firmly reject any form of economic package both by the Centre and State in lieu of statehood demand (separate assembly, separate administration and capital of its own). Article 371A (2) (b) of the Constitution of India, ENPO said guarantees that any money provided by the Government of India to the Government of Nagaland to meet the requirements of the state of Nagaland as a whole, the Governor shall in his discretion arrange for an equitable allocation of that money between the Tuensang district and the rest of the state.
However, ENPO said this provision has been overlooked from day one as the people of ENPO never saw a tangible fruits as guaranteed.
ENPO, therefore, asserted that providing any top most special economic package for the development of ENPO would never reach the targeted area and the people.
