The winners of the 2019 BAFTAs were announced in London last night – with big victories being secured by The Favourite, Roma and Bohemian Rhapsody.

On a successful night for British film, period drama The Favourite lead with seven awards – including a coveted best actress award for Olivia Colman, a best supporting actress gong for Rachel Weisz and the award for outstanding British film. Accepting the best actress gong, Olivia Colman said the film’s team were having an “amazing night” and paid tribute to her co-stars Weisz and Emma Stone.

“As far as I’m concerned, all three of us are the same and should be the leads, and it’s weird we can’t do that,” she told the audience at the Royal Albert Hall. “This is for all three of us. It’s got my name on it but we can scratch on some other ones.” And while Rami Malek scored an expected best actor victory for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, the coveted best film award went to Alfonso Cuaron’s Roma –which charts the life of a live-in housekeeper employed by a middle class Mexican family. It also picked up the best director gong for Cuaron, best cinematography and best film not in the English language.
