As a step to ensure that Nagaland continues to be the safest state for women in the country,  the state government has decided to set up women police stations in all the districts likely by December 1, 2018, to coincide with Nagaland Statehood Day.

This was disclosed by deputy chief minister in-charge of Home, Y. Patton when contacted by Nagaland Post. Patton also said the modalities for establishing the all-women police stations was under process.

Earlier, in an interview with Nagaland Post, Nagaland DGP, T.J. Longkumer said he would strongly support any such initiatives if and when proposed.

It may be recalled that the first women police station was set up in Kohima on October 18, 2016. The second full-fledged all women police station was opened at Dimapur in November 2016 by Home minister Y. Patton. Since there was no women police station for more than a decade, many cases went unreported as women were apprehensive in approaching police station due to gender sensitivity, Patton had said.
