Workshop on biodiversity conservation

Wokha Forest division organised an awareness workshop on “Biodiversity conservation: issues & challenges” for the students at GHS Sungro under Sanis sub-division, Wokha on November 22.

A press release by DFO office Wokha stated that, DFO Wokha, Zuthunglo Patton in her speech encouraged the participants to be responsible and bring about change to make a better place for environment and biodiversity. 

Resource persons for the workshop were Lansothung Lotha, FR and Dr. David Baite, scientist Botanical Survey of India (BSI). Several issues on the topic were discussed along with powerpoint presentations, quizzes and poster presentation by the BSI team followed by documentary. 

Dr. N. Odyuo, scientist, BSI encouraged the students to be informed and adapt to a lifestyle for overall wellbeing of biodiversity even for the generations to come. He urged the students to adopt a tree each and distributed tree saplings to all the participants. 

The programme was chaired by Vivika A. Sema, FR. The workshop was funded by the Botanical Survey of India under the aegis of the National Mission on Himalayan Studies Project and was organized by Wokha Forest Division (WFD).
