A Review Meeting & District Level Workshop on Maternal Death Review (MDR) and Child Death Review (CDR) was held on April 10 at the Conference Hall of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kiphire.

A press release by the department stated that a slide-show presentation on “Government of India guidelines on maternal death surveillance and response 2017 & child death review 2014” and roles and responsibilities of MDR and CDR committees was presented by the district program officer (RCH & UIP) Kiphire, Dr. K. Pewezo Khalo.

As per HMIS reports received from various health units, during 2018-2019, seven cases of child death were reported but there was no report of any maternal death. A presentation on District Hospital Kiphire (DHK) CDR reports was presented by MO (gynaecologist), Dr. Rosemary, who also highlighted constraints the hospital faces in providing care for new-borns.

DHK medical superintendent, Dr. Bendangsenla Ao, promised to look into the issues, especially issues related to the labour room, and to look into continuous supply and availability of essential medicines for new born care services to address child death.

The committee also recommended for a paediatrician to be posted at Kiphire District Hospital and the conduct of a re-orientation training program on Essential New Born Care for MOs and nursing staff of the district. The meeting was chaired by deputy CMO Kiphire, Dr. Tinurenla Anichari and a welcome address was delivered by CMO Kiphire, Dr. E Motsuthung Patton.
