World Bamboo Workshop concludes in Imphal

The 3rd World Bamboo Workshop hosted by Manipur came to an end on Friday.

Manipur Governor, Dr Najma Heptulla, who graced the valedictory programme, said “Bamboo provides a very good natural resource that is both sustainable and eco-friendly”.

She hoped that the workshop will help enhancing technological and scientific uses of the rich natural resource of bamboo for economic and overall welfare of the people. 

She expected that the workshop would throw light on how the state could develop its huge natural potential in bamboo for the advancement of the economy of state and to provide economically viable and gainful alternatives to its people. 

She was confident that the deliberations and exchanges of information, knowledge, know-how, demonstration of latest technologies and sharing of the technological advancements in the development of bamboo, would benefit the people of the state. 

State textiles, commerce & industry minister, Th Biswajit Singh said that the workshop would surely benefit bamboo artisans of the state.  The 3rd World Bamboo Workshop 2019 at Imphal, Manipur should be a game-changer for the people of Manipur as well as the state government in its engagement to bring about benefits from the state’s rich bamboo resources, he said.

As part of the closing programme, a souvenir of the 3rd World Bamboo Workshop, 2019 was released by the Governor. She also distributed prizes of various competitions like Bamboo Cooking, Photography, Painting and Poster making to winners. 

The next edition of the workshop will be held in Taiwan as announced by Susanne Lucas, executive director of WBO. 

Delegates from 34 countries attended the 3rd World Bamboo Workshop and three MoUs were also exchanged between the signing departments/organisations in the closing ceremony.
