WRD launches ‘Myki  umbrella’ for women vendors

Department of Women Resource Development launched the Myki umbrella for women vegetable vendors in state capital Kohima. Advisor for Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services and Women Resource Development, R Khing officially launched the event at High School Junction, Kohima on Friday morning.

Speaking on the occasion, R Khing said the department was distributing umbrellas having seen the conditions of vendors in the street during the pandemic and to enable them run their family. He also assured the department will do its best in every possible way to uplift vendors in the state.

The advisor encouraged vendors to uplift local economy adding that bad road condition or bandh had worsened food scarcity. He stressed upon the need to improve agricultural activities for self sufficiency in order to improve the economy of the state.

Stating that the roles of women have improved over the years, he suggested women vendors to encourage families through such platforms despite challenges they face.

Commissioner  & Secretary Horticulture & Women Resource Development, Anenla T. Sato said they started this initiative in order to encourage vendors. During the pandemic, the women came up with local products which encouraged the department to take the initiative by distribution of umbrellas to women vendors.

Secretary also informed that more vendors in Kohima will be receiving the umbrellas and that the department was planning to take up the initiative to every district in efforts to acknowledge women vendors in the state. The umbrellas along with face masks were distributed to around 30 vendors.
