Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) issued a stern warning on usage of Sumi names and surnames by non-Sumis after taking note of an affidavit that declared names of Himato Murumi and Faruk Hussain son of Toluvi Murumi alias Shajul Islam. WSH through its president, Zheshito Swu and general secretary Vikato K Achumi demanded immediate nullification of the said affidavit.

WSH also “warned and questioned” those advocates and notary public/s, as to how Naga names and surnames could be accorded, despite of knowing that such people were of non-Naga origin? WSH said since the issue has invited serious criticisms from every section of Naga society involving Sumi tribe’s prestige and name in question, WSH warned of stringent action if the affidavit was not nullified. WSH said it does not recognize usage of Sumi names or surnames by non-Sumis and demanded the nullification should be published in the media. It also warned that no others, than Sumis by blood, can acquire Sumi name/surname and those found indulging in such acts shall sternly be dealt with. WSH reminded that it will not tolerate such acts lightly and appealed to all Nagas to also not sell away the coming generation’s future for the sake of few rupees.
