The Yisemyong Students’ Union (YSU) celebrated its Silver Jubilee at Yisemyong Church on Friday, under the theme-‘Jangyumedem (In Unison)’, with constituency MLA, Dr. Imtiwapang Aier as special invitee and Tir Yimyim Editor-in-Chief, K Temjen Jamir as the key speaker.

In his speech, Dr. Imtiwapang Aier congratulated the founding members of YSU and lauded the leaders of the Union past and present leaders & members for keeping their torch burning up to this mile stone (Silver Jubilee). Offering a prior apology for the statement, Dr. Aier lamented that the present generation of Naga youth have been forced to inherit deep rooted ‘corruption’, and even the Churches are not un-touched by this critical menace, he said. Dr. Aier asserted that it was the present generation students who need to begin the process of eradicating corruption from the land so that the State may see a brighter future.

The special invitee further urged the student community to endeavour to make Mokokchung district a land of knowledge and economy, in place of the tag the ‘Land of Fashion’.

Speaking on the topic ‘Jangyumedem’, K. Temjen Jamir urged the people of Yisemyong, especially the student community, to be selfless creators of innovative ideas, to assist and uplift the society, instead of focussing on individual monetary gains and fame.

Earlier, the YSU Silver Jubilee Souvenir was released by Dr. Imtiwapang Aier and a special song was presented by the YSU. A solo was presented by Watisosang Lemtor. YSU president Tongpangkumzuk delivered a welcome note and a minute of silence led by Sungratsu Baptist Church Pastor, I Kilem was observed for departed souls of the YSU.

Short speeches were also delivered by founder president of YSU, Yanger Aier, an ATC representative and N Mapu Jamir. Invocation was offered by pastor Akangmongba and the vote of thanks was proposed by Jubilee Planning Convenor, I Temsu Walling.
