Zasevikho is Mezoma wrestling champ

Veteran wrestler and former international Hornbill Naga wrestling champion, Zasevikho Meyatsu emerged as the champion of the 44th Mezoma wrestling meet held on Tuesday at Phehinu, Mezoma village under Kohima district. 

The 33 year-old Zasevikho defeated Rokokehie Khawakhrie in the final in straight bouts to emerge as the winner of the Mezoma wrestling meet which was organised by Mezoma Youth Organisation (MYO). 

It may be mentioned that the veteran wrestler Zasevikho, who is also a former champ of Angami open wrestling meet, has made his return to the arena after a gap of almost two years.

On his way to lift his 7th title, Zasevikho defeated Sielie Chüsi in the semi-final, Zapulie K. Kuotsu in the quarter-final and title contender Keneiselie Khawakhrie in the pre-quarter. 

The third and fourth positions were bagged by Thekrulhoukho Sirie and Sielie Chüsi respectively. 

Meyatsu pocketed an amount of Rs. 10,000, while runner-up Rokokehie and third and fourth position winners Thekrulhoukho and Sielie received an amount of Rs.7,000, Rs.5,000 and Rs.4,000 respectively. 

All the prizes of the top four winners were sponsored by Rokokedo Kehie. A total of 34 wrestlers competed in the senior category. 

In the junior category (U-16), Mhiesitoulie Kehie was crowned as the champion after defeating Neitsituo Krose in the final. The third, fourth and fifth place winners were bagged by Kekhrievilhou Sirie, Viketoulie Chüsi and Khriekhotuo Khawakhrie respectively. 

A total of 16 wrestlers took part in the junior category. 

Earlier, the inaugural function was graced by Neivikuolie Khatsü, president, Nagaland Wrestling Association as the special guest.
