Zeliangrong Civil Organizations (ZCOs) in Manipur on Friday threatened to impose an indefinite ban on implementation of “mega national projects” in Zeliangrong areas with effect from September 12.

A statement issued by ZCOs media and publicity cell said that the bandh would be imposed in protest against the government’s failure to book the NSCN (I-M) functionaries who were allegedly involved in the abduction and threatening of Zeliangrong Civil Organizations’ (ZCOs) leaders.

Earlier, the organizations on the expiry of their 48-hour ultimatum, imposed a 24-hour total shutdown in Zeliangrong area on August 16.

In this regard, an emergency consultative meeting of ZCOs was held with president, Athuan Abonmai of Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) as the chair, which deliberated on the pending demands of the ZCOs.

After a thorough deliberation, the meeting decided to impose the ban on all works related with the implementation of mega national projects in Zeliangrong areas, the statement said.

The meeting was attended by Zeliangrong Youth Front, Zeliangrong Baudi, Manipur and Zeliangrong Students’ Union and senior leaders, it added.
