Zeliangrong Baudi and Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland) and the All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (AZSU) have called for a 24-hour bandh in the Zeliangrong areas in Manipur on August 16.

The bandh to begin from Wednesday midnight has been called against alleged failure on the part of governments of India and Manipur to book NSCN (I-M) cadres allegedly involved in the abduction of leaders of the ZYF and Zeliangrong students.

NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam road), district highway and all national projects within the jurisdiction of Zeliangrong areas will come under purview of the strike, a joint statement of the Zeliangrong bodies said.

Schools, government offices, business activities, religions, medical/health, water supply, and electricity have been exempted from the purview of the strike.

Meanwhile, a statement of ZSU Manipur said that the democratic agitation launched by the Zeliangrong civil organizations was a “serious matter of life and security of the citizens.”
